2001: The Beginning / Early Years
With a small nest egg and big drive, Joe started Distinctive Drywall from the garage in his Andover home. He had the vision and determination to take one of the most challenging areas for customers in the building process, something that people often dreaded, and make it an enjoyable experience. During these early years, he wore a lot of hats. He built a business based on integrity, respect, quality craftsmanship, and exceeding customer expectations. These core principles were instilled at a very young age while helping his father, a builder/remodeler, on his job sites. These principles still hold true for the company today.
2009: Time for Change
The construction industry was hit hard by the recession, and Distinctive was no different. While the company endured a couple of lean years, it was a great learning experience and it forced us, as owners, to reinvent ourselves and our business model. Up until the recession, our sales came from the booming new residential home building market, based primarily on referrals. We did some soul searching, surrounded ourselves with great business advisors, and educated ourselves on different aspects of business. This process eventually led to us expand our vision and find our niche in the market. We moved into a new warehouse in Blaine and set out to build a great team, focusing our efforts in residential remodeling and the luxury home market.
2013: Power of Teamwork
A lot of time and energy were spent working internally on our operations: refining systems, processes, business strategies, and building a team that was just as committed to our vision as we were. By the end of 2013, we’d grown from a team of four to ten and hit $1M in sales for the first time. We moved to a bigger warehouse with 1,000 sq. ft. of office space (a dream come true). It was evident that we could achieve far more together than we ever could individually.
2016: New Opportunities
The housing market was back on track, and things were moving at a fast pace. Joe saw an opportunity in the marketplace where we could provide more value to our customers and add more revenue to our business. In September of 2016, we purchased Vantage Painting of St. Paul and officially added painting and pre-finishing to our line of services. The acquisition gave us a great opportunity to have experts on both sides of drywall and painting. We now have the ability to offer our customers a higher quality product along with a more streamlined experience.
While our industry continues to change and move quickly, one thing that remains constant at Distinctive Drywall & Painting: we continue to challenge the status quo and focus on giving our customers the best experience possible. We look forward to being a leader in our industry and creating long lasting relationships with all of our customers. As we grow, we’ll also continue to help others in need and make a positive impact on the communities in which we live and work.
